The Optimized Self: An Introduction to to Neural Self-Hacking


People have always sought to optimize their cognition and physical performance in order to reach their maximum potential. In the era of the quantified self, there is renewed interest in incorporating certain practices and utilizing various techniques to achieve greater results and enhance one’s own health and quality of life.

Collectively these concepts form the basis of the movement known as neural self-hacking. The name is from a course that Google offers to its employees. The theory is that mindfulness techniques can increase emotional intelligence, and is extended by the notion that these and other practices can reach the yet-untapped potential that exists within all of us.

This blog will explore several different aspects of neural self-hacking and explores the mind/body connection. Some topics that will be covered will be sleep, exercise, how to increase cognition, and how to reduce stress.
